Ras Shitan, literally translates to “Head of the Devil”. Though this is not its real name, but this is how it is known among the few people that know the place and usually go there.
The real name was “Ras el Shateen” which translates to “Head of the two beaches”, but due to foreigners that try to pronounce the Arabic name, it was transformed to Ras Shitan.
It got the name “Head of the two beaches” because of the rock formation that is dividing the place into two separate beaches.
Although I would still call it the Devil’s Head, solely because unlike anywhere else, whatever you wish to do in that place is possible! (ifyouknowwhatimean)
This place, like Siwa and Dahab, is one of the few places in Egypt that are really relaxing and that got me to fall in love with them. However, add to that, an EXTREME hippie style of living. Laid back. Seriously.
I arrived a couple of days after my friends did, and so to check in I had to go with a friend who’s been there before me to find the manager, laying on the beach. We chatted for a while, he took my ID and that was it…
Everything about this place is amazing. The views, the water, the untouched coral reefs, the mountains, and of course the devil’s head itself!
The beauty and relaxing atmosphere of the place is also completed by the style of people that are there, both visitors and workers are all likely minded, all minding their own business and none is bothering the other with whatever they are doing.
The workers are all friendly and fun. They leave whatever they are doing to spend some time chatting with you. And later at night when their real work is done they can even stay a while with you if you’ll offer some alcohol or so
Simply just visit this place to stay for a few days without the hustle and bustle of the cities, without anyone annoying you. I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t like camping and/or don’t like quiet and relaxed places!
Would you like to spend there a few days? If you were meaning to ask, Ras Shitan is on the Nuweiba-Taba highway in Sinai, Egypt. Less than 10 Km out of Nuweiba.
Trust me it is a must visit if you are in Sinai or in Egypt with a few extra days!

I see the devil’s head! I don’t think it looks sinister, but it definitely looks like something. So much so that I could believe it if someone told me it was manmade.
I actually didn’t notice it looks like a real head while I was there until I saw it on someone’s pictures on facebook! I thought the head just refers to the rock that divides the two beaches! But now I know why it is called head
I am interested in knowing everything about this place:))) Price and wifi availability plzzz
haha! I knew you would!
Well prices range from 30 per night to 70 per night…you have to get your own price
the website says it is 30 per night + a minimum 90 for food…we paid 40 per night and never got close to that 90 per day for food…(though their food is really delicious, and though slightly expensive but it is good value, ie huge meals)
There is no wifi there but if you have 3G or so the place has good network coverage
There are other camps close by that say they do have WiFi but I would recommend this one! The others were totally empty, this one has some people all the time, and they are really nice people! Great atmosphere! Plus a few days of disconnection is always good for the health
The author is correct. A very laid back place. I enjoyed snorkeling and campfires while I was there. The tea was good too. I would recommend a first aid kit in case you get stung by a reef creature and a male escort who speaks Arabic if your a female traveler and wish to go into town. Also, there is no ATM nearby so bring lots of cash. I will be returning after new years for a relaxing stay and to snorkel in the reef. Best snorkeling EVER!
It IS Very laid back indeed
And yes you are correct about the money thing, I forgot to mention this! Thank you Christiana
I would like to know how’s the weather in Jan-Feb and is the toilets clean? and those meals for 1 person or how many ? and should every person order with 90 L.E per day?
Weather will be good! Warm in general and might be a little chilly at nights…the 90EGP is a “must” but the place has no rules…no REAL management, so you can talk your way to a less amount or to non at all!
Toilets are ok but take your toilet paper with you as sometimes toilets didnt have them…
what’s the activities their? and is it Normal toilets cause someone just told me its not like the ones at the city!!
