Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand.
When I finally had the full morning to go exploring, but didn’t wake up early enough to go to the “Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep” which is the ‘must visit’ temple in Chiang Mai, I decided to go for a walk in the old town instead, having heard there were many interesting temples there, so I thought I should go and check some of them out.
And so I went.
Walking from one street to other with no specific direction or a map in hand, just checking the place out, and entering whatever place or temple that looked interesting. And being a foreigner, I didn’t really worry about if I am allowed to be in this place or not, if I am not allowed someone will tell me to get out. All I did (which is always something good) is ask for permission before taking photos, so it wouldn’t offend anyone…
I started with the biggest temple in the old town, “Wat Phra Sing“, which was very interesting, and with a cheap entrance ticket of 20 Bahts when you’re going into the main temple. But it also has so many more temples to offer inside its walls, the rest are free.
Same Same but Different
Here are some of my favorites of them!
Wat Tung Yu
Wat Sri Gerd
Wat Duang Dee
I actually enjoyed the smaller temples a lot more than the bigger ones. It is just this feeling when you walk into the temple and have it all to yourself, with all its serenity and simpleness. I wouldn’t mind taking a book and staying there all morning just reading and watching people.
Have you been in Chiang Mai? What were your favorite temples here?
