It was my girlfriend’s birthday the first time I went to Padi City Resort, a hotel in the outskirts of Malang, on the way to beautiful mountainous Batu.
Like its name suggests, the hotel is surrounded by rice paddies and is of amazing quietness and serenity.
That time we didn’t go for the cheapest room, as it is an important occasion, but of course we also didn’t go for the most expensive ones. Our choice, according to the hotel, was called “Exotic Room”. The room was quite nice, very clean and with very comfortable beds and clean, hot showers!
A couple of months later we were stuck in Malang with no place to stay, and we remembered that Padi City Resort had some cheaper rooms and we decided to go again. This was the 22nd of December, and little did we know, this was the beginning of the high season, and the cheapest room (less than 30 dollars) was now for almost 50 dollars. We decided to stay anyway because it was late and we were not sure we’ll find another cheap place anyway, as it was beginning of high season in all of hotels, of course!
This room, called “Classic Silver”, is without AC or hot water, no “exotic” views from the windows, but still quite clean and cozy!
Next morning when checking out we were given the nice surprise of paying the normal rate for the room, not the high season one, and being asked if it is our second time to be here or not, and welcoming us to come again anytime, which we did!
After returning from Gili islands, we decided it is best to stay there for at least a couple of nights until we find another place to spend another two nights (we were on a really tight budget!)
We were surprised to find the hotel almost fully booked! But only almost; as the “Mountain View” room was the only empty one. For 50 dollars, we said we’re sorry but we can’t afford it, so the receptionist told us they are willing to give us the room for only 30 dollars! We couldn’t turn down that offer! But booked another night in the cheaper room for the next day.
Our booking was somehow forgotten, and now the hotel was again fully booked! But while packing our bags to check out we were again given the nice surprise that one of the bookings was cancelled, for the “Luxury room”! Of course we couldn’t afford it, for 60 dollars a night! But again they compromised and told us they’ll give it to us for only 30!
Again no saying no to that offer! A room which is 2 meters away from the pool, with an amazing view, AC, hot water showers, your own living room complete with a coffee maker! What else can a “backpacker” dream of? It was heaven for us, specially when compared to the “VIP rooms” we used to get when traveling around Madura Island!
Of course after all that niceness, we couldn’t move to another hotel for the next two days, and we stayed there for the rest of our stay in Malang, and moved the room for actual 30 dollars room, “Classic Gold”, finally getting what we are paying for! Which is no AC, but a fan, hot water showers, and a pool view!
All rooms had breakfast included as well, which was a nice open buffet breakfast of traditional Indonesian food! Not the best Indonesian food I had but quite filling!
Disclaimer: I did not get paid/asked for this post, all opinions are fully mine. All discounts I got were only due to the amazingness of the staff, and for me visiting same hotel more than once! I only wrote the post as I was extremely happy with the service and the discounts and thought I should let people know about it!
